U.S. Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) announced recently that the Department of Transportation (DOT) will be awarding Capital Region International Airport $1,935,306 in funding to repair taxiways. These funds are from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant program.

“Having reliable and safe air service is crucial for economic development, commerce, and tourism in Mid-Michigan,” said Senator Stabenow. “This grant is an important investment in the infrastructure that is needed to help our communities and businesses rebound from the pandemic.”

“Airports play a critical role in boosting Michigan’s economy by connecting communities and businesses to important destinations and resources,” said Senator Peters. “This federal support will ensure Capital Region International Airport can continue helping to transport travelers safely and efficiently for years to come.”

“This funding will be used to make improvements and repairs to a taxiway, and build a new taxiway that primarily services our fixed-base operator, which will improve safety by reconfiguring the existing taxiway to comply with current design standards,” said Nicole Noll-Williams, President and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Authority. “These improvements are necessary to ensure we are providing safe and secure facilities for our airline partners and other tenants, and would not be possible without the support of our federal partners. We want to thank Sen. Peters and Sen. Stabenow for their continued support.”
