In honor of Veterans Day, Sparrow organizes military burials for five local veterans Thursday
What: In time for Veterans Day on Friday, Sparrow Forensic Pathology has worked with federal officials to arrange for five individuals who served our country to be buried with full military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek. Sparrow Forensic Pathology is the Medical Examiner for seven local counties and serves by the credo that everyone deserves to be treated with respect in death. Sparrow officials researched the backgrounds of the local deceased individuals who had either lost touch with their families or whose families could not afford a burial, and discovered four had served in the Navy and one in the Army. Sparrow worked for months to petition the federal government to allow the individuals to be buried at Fort Custer. Those services will take place this week and will help spotlight the lives of five people who have vastly different life stories but who are finally earning their rightful place among their brethren.
Where: Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta (near Battle Creek)
When: Thursday, Nov. 10, first service begins at 9:30 a.m.
