State Sen. Sarah Anthony to keynote LCC’s Equal Pay Day event
Lansing, Mich. – (March 10, 2023) Lansing Community College’s annual recognition of Equal Pay Day will take place 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, via Webex. The agenda will include a keynote from state Sen. Sarah Anthony with remarks from LCC Trustee Chair Angela Mathews, followed by a panel discussion about equal pay.
The panel will be moderated by LCC Trustee Samantha Vaive, and panelists will include:
- Toni Glasscoe, Associate Vice President for External Affairs, Development & K-12 Operations
- Mary Stroebel, Human Resources Director for Total Compensation, Employment and HR Systems
- Sandi Jones, Member at Muchmore Harrington Smalley & Associates, LLC
Equal Pay Day is dedicated to awareness, symbolizing how far into 2023 the average U.S. woman has to work to make as much as men did in 2022.
On average, women working full-time in the U.S. in 2022 were paid 84 cents for every dollar paid to men. The gap persists across industries and education levels and is higher for women in part-time or seasonal work. The gap increases for women of color – Black women are paid 67 cents for every dollar paid to men, and Native and Hispanic women are paid 57 cents. The gap is also higher for mothers, who are paid 74 cents for every dollar paid to men, and for LGBTQIA+ women.
The National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPR) began Equal Pay Day in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between men’s and women’s wages.
All LCC employees and the Greater Lansing community are welcome to attend. Be sure to wear red, to symbolize how far “in the red” women are compared to their male colleagues.
