SANFORD | May 24 – Associated Builders and Contractors Greater Michigan Chapter encourages all to get involved with its community and pay it forward. This was evident on May 23 when its Emerging Professionals, ABC members, and staff joined the Midland County Habitat for Humanity on the home located at 2036 Crescent St., Sanford.

“The Greater Michigan Construction Academy and Habitat for Humanity of Midland have a
wonderful partnership and ABC is happy to be the first group to volunteer our time in making
this house a home for a local family,” said Cathy Geiger, director of marketing and community
affairs at ABC Greater Michigan. “ABC encourages its future leaders to be involved with
activities like this.”

Volunteers (including Curtis Moore of Windemuller, Sara Parker of MDL Companies, Jessica
Vance of Alloy Construction Service Inc., Summer Weiss of Three Rivers Corporation, Heather
Murphy of MAG Insulation, Cathy Geiger, and Greg Berreles of ABC Greater Michigan) installed
“groundbreakers” around the foundation, seeded the yard, worked on the landscaping and
installed knobs and locks for the front and side doors.

“Midland County Habitat for Humanity greatly appreciates the members of ABC for volunteering on the Crescent Street home. The members share in Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Through support and volunteerism they contribute to build strength, stability, and self-reliance with Midland County Habitat for Humanity and help make a difference in a community we share” said Jennifer Chappel, CEO and President of Midland County Habitat for Humanity.

Erich Ostrander, the Construction Manager for Midland County Habitat for Humanity elaborated
by thanking ABC members for volunteering their time. “Volunteers are the heartbeat of Midland
County Habitat for Humanity. Without organizations such as ABC volunteering their time to help
build affordable housing, we could not accomplish 3 – 4 home builds a year. Volunteers, such
as the individuals that volunteered with ABC, volunteer their time, talents, and dedication to help more families build and improve places to call home. The volunteers helped install foam board insulation, seeded the yard, and cleaned the drainage ditch of the home. We are grateful for them coming to assist on the job site and cannot accomplish what we do without the dedication, compassion, and support of the community and volunteers.” For more information on ABC Greater Michigan, visit abcgmc.org.
