Regional BusinessU.S. employers added a solid 223,000 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate fell to 5.3 percent, a seven-year low. The Labor Department said that the unemployment rate dropped from 5.5 percent in May.

The housing recovery is on sound footing. Sales of existing homes in May were up 9.2% from a year earlier, according to the National Association of Realtors. Meanwhile, new-home sales were up 20% from a year ago, hitting their highest level in seven years.

Manufacturing expanded in June at the fastest pace in five months, indicating domestic demand is allowing America’s factories to withstand sluggish overseas economies.
