GRAND RAPIDS, MI: Michigan Women’s Foundation first West Michigan Entrepreneur-YOU competition, sponsored by Consumers Energy Foundation. Michigan Women’s Foundation (MWF) is a non-profit organization that for nearly 30 years has been working to achieve social and economic equality for Michigan’s women and girls.
On Friday 10/16, winners of the final W. Michigan Business Plan and Pitch Competition were unveiled live at GVSU (in two categories: Lifestyle and Growth). Cash prizes in total were $35,000, and were distributed as follows for both categories: 1st – $10,000; 2nd – $5,000; and 3rd – $2,500.
Growth Companies
1st – $10,000 UMP Analytical LLC – Evelyn Ritter: Chemical testing company that connects the expertise within academia to the needs of the industry.
2nd – $5,000 Fluition LLC – Briauna Taylor: Medical rehabilitation device design and supply company that has redesigned the sit-to-stand device.
3rd – $2,500 Advanced Interactive Response Systems – Valarie Obenchain: High-quality safety products that remotely monitor oxygen supply.
Lifestyle Companies
1st $10,000 Sweet Encounter – Nikki Thompson Frazier: Start-up bakery providing gluten-free and vegan desserts looking to open a retail location and at least one cupcake and dessert dispenser.
2nd $5,000 Free Love Bakery – Julie Fox: High-quality, gluten-free and allergen friendly food.
3rd $2,500 Carry Your Heart Jewelry and Gifts – Sarah Rickerd: Will design a retail line of distinctive, meaningful jewelry and gifts for bereaved parents and their support communities.
