America’s Car Museum, “The Drive Home” and Detroit’s Auto Show

The Drive Home - Auto ShowThis week’s show is about old cars, new cars and how they can come together in an unusual and adventurous project. First, David Madeira, CEO of America’s Car Museum, in Tacoma, WA, talks about that amazing facility, its award-winning architecture, history, its displays and collections. He also talks about the philosophy of getting cars out and about whenever possible.

He and his friend, a member of the museum’s Steering Committee, Rod Alberts, cooked up a courageous project that will surprise and delight old car lovers everywhere, called “The Drive Home,” a 2,400-mile odyssey driving three old cars from the collection in the Pacific Northwest, to Detroit’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January. Our other guest is Rod Alberts, executive director of the Auto Show, who fills us in on the project and how it impacts the Detroit show. Rod also gives us a colorful preview of what we can expect at the 2016 NAIAS. (By the way, A Shunpiker’s Journal host, Steve Purdy, will be driving three legs of The Drive Home – from Boise to Denver – with stories posted daily on TheAutoChannel.com beginning December 28.)
