Wall Street Wrapup – Stocks Down, Mergers and Acquisitions and More!

FinanceUS stocks closed slightly lower on Thursday, but a rally during the previous three sessions left the main indexes with solid gains for the holiday-shortened week. The Dow dropped 50 to 17,552, the S&P slipped 3 to 2,061 and the Nasdaq gained 3 to 5,048.

This year’s record run of mergers and acquisitions has largely been made in America.

The dollar’s appreciation has been a potent force. The greenback may have further to rise. The dollar is up 9.8% against the Federal Reserve’s basket of major currencies this year, on track for its third best performance in 30 years.
