eDetroiter: Can’t Miss Events & Celebrating Women’s Day

ICYMI | How Women in Leadership Are Redefining Power, Progress, and Possibility

Last week, the Detroit Regional Chamber hosted its annual International Women’s Day event, convening business professionals and leaders for an afternoon of empowerment and celebration.

At this year’s event, leading women from various sectors across the Detroit Region shared their personal interpretations of this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” and how it impacts their lives, both personally and professionally, during individual keynotes and a panel discussion.

During her keynote address, Chamber Board of Directors member Tiffany A. Albert emphasized that generosity is “not a loss of power but a multiplier.”

“I believe that when people have the right support, whether it’s mentorship, allyship, advocacy, tools, resources, education, training, we don’t just grow. We actually become limitless,” said Albert.

Securing the Talent Pipeline: The Push to Restore Going PRO, Expand Dual Enrollment

With the next state budget process underway, the Chamber is championing the restoration of the Going PRO Talent Fund and advocating for crucial changes to dual enrollment programs.

What’s at stake: The Going PRO Talent Fund was an employer-driven, reimbursable grant program considered by many Chamber members to be the best talent development initiative supported by the state. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s budget recommendation would completely cut the workforce program.

What needs improvement: Dual enrollment serves as an economic competitiveness strategy that is critical to strengthening the Region’s talent pipeline. However, under Michigan’s current funding formula, school districts that pay millions each year for dual enrollment courses are financially punished for doing so. The state must develop a new funding model for dual enrollment.
