For the third straight year, a team from the Upper Peninsula has won the Michigan Regional Future City Competition. Team Tkaranto took first place on January 20 with their futuristic design, a city near Toronto, Canada, home to 20 million people with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
The second through fifth place teams were:
2nd Place – Pierce Middle School, Grosse Pointe Park – Sorpresa team
3rd Place – Scranton Middle School, Brighton – Thryve Metropolis team
4th Place – AGBU Alex & Marie Manoogian School, Southfield – AgriTown team
5th Place – Northport Public School, Northport – Lakefield team
Team Tkaranto will represent Michigan at the Future City Finals held in Washington, DC, February 14 – 18 during National Engineers Week. The top prize at the Finals is $10,000 for the school’s STEM program, sponsored by Discover Engineering. Good luck Team Tkaranto!
