EAST LANSING, MI–An evening of unparalleled artistry and musical mastery with “The finest big band in the world today” (Daily Telegraph), the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra led by Jazz at Lincoln Center Managing and Artistic Director, trumpeter, and nine-time Grammy Award-winner Wynton Marsalis comes to East Lansing next week. From swinging rhythms to soulful melodies, every performance is a celebration of the spirit of jazz and its enduring influence. Per an announcement issued by Jazz at Lincoln Center, at the conclusion of the 2026-2027 season, nearly 40 years after founding the organization, Wynton Marsalis will step down as the Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and Music Director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

As Wynton Marsalis approaches his final full-time season with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, this performance promises to be a very special evening, as we honor and celebrate Wynton Marsalis.

The Chicago Tribune describes the exhilarating force of the band in concert: “The orchestra [tore] through this music as if chasing the wind. Only a group of musicians who have toured together for so long … could have attained this kind of synchronicity.”

For over three decades, Jazz at Lincoln Center has been a leading advocate for jazz, culture, and arts education, dedicated to inspiring and growing jazz audiences throughout the world.

This year’s performance will feature Wynton Marsalis, along with Ryan KisorMike Rodriguez, and Marcus Printup on trumpet; Vincent GardnerChris Crenshaw, and Elliot Mason on trombone; Sherman Irby on the alto and soprano saxophones, flute, clarinet; Alexa Tarantino on the alto and soprano saxophones, flute, clarinet, and piccolo; Chris Lewis on tenor and soprano saxophones, clarinet, and bass clarinet; Abdias Armenteros on tenor and soprano saxophones, and clarinet; Paul Nedzela on baritone and soprano saxophones, clarinet, and bass clarinet; Dan Nimmer on piano; Carlos Henriquez on bass; and Obed Calvaire on drums.
