Elmet Technologies, the last and only fully integrated, U.S.-owned and operated tungsten and Molybdenum manufacturer, today announces it has secured a strategic $5.1 million order to develop domestic extrusion capabilities for Inconel® and Monel®, two high-performance superalloys engineered for mission-critical Navy submarine systems.

MBN: Elmet Technologies 2This strategic initiative will leverage Elmet Technologies’ state-of-the-art 5,500-ton extrusion press at its Coldwater, Michigan facility. The order safeguards a critical asset in support of U.S. Navy shipbuilding and strengthens the resiliency of the U.S. defense industrial base. The order is part of a broader collaboration between Elmet Technologies, the United States Navy, the Maritime Industrial Base Program, and Blue Forge Alliance. Together, these organizations are working together to ensure a robust, secure, and innovative supply chain for critical defense applications.

MBN: Elmet Technologies 3“This is a testament to the power of public-private cooperation,” said Brian Olson, Vice President of Operations at Elmet Technologies. “With this strategic order, we are expanding the Navy’s supply chain around Inconel, Monel, and our extrusion press – but more importantly, we are investing in the future of American manufacturing and job creation.” The funding will be used to develop and qualify extrusion and rotary forging processes for these highperformance alloys, which are essential for corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength in naval propulsion and submarine system applications. Elmet Technologies’ 5,500-ton extrusion press, one of the largest and most capable in the nation, is uniquely suited for this mission.

MBN: Elmet Technologies 4Originally designed for defense-critical applications, the press has regularly extruded a portfolio of alloys for customers over the past several decades. Now, the alloy portfolio expands further, adding more key materials critical to national interests. “This demonstrates our commitment to U.S. manufacturing beyond refractory metals,” said Derek Fox, Chief Executive Officer at Elmet Technologies.

“It’s about strengthening a resilient industrial base to meet the Navy’s evolving needs and support U.S. manufacturing and jobs. On behalf of Elmet Technologies, we want to thank all the collaborators who helped make this opportunity possible.” This initiative aligns with Elmet Technologies’ long-standing commitment to U.S. manufacturing, the defense industrial base, workforce development, and national security.
