We are pleased to announce that the 2025 Distinguished University Innovator of the Year Award recipient is Dr. Zhong He for his extensive and impactful work as a researcher and innovator in the field of room-temperature semiconductor gamma-ray detector technology. Dr. He serves as professor of nuclear engineering and radiological sciences at the University of Michigan College of Engineering and has established several startups to commercialize his gamma ray detection technology, including H3D, M3D and MH3D.

Dr. He will receive his award at this year’s Celebrate Invention, the university’s signature event honoring U-M researchers and innovators. Prior to the award presentation, there will be a panel discussion exploring how Dr. He and his collaborators capitalized on the versatility of his novel radiation technology and have used it to drive innovation across a variety of fields.
