KALAMAZOO, MI, February 18, 2025 – The Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Center in partnership with Society of Women Engineers (SWE) South Central Michigan (SCMI) section is proud to announce the 12th annual Corporate Engineering Challenge at the Air Zoo on Saturday, February 22. This exciting, hands-on event is designed to inspire and empower young girls to explore careers in engineering.
SWE is a not-for-profit educational and service organization committed to advancing females in engineering. Through engaging outreach initiatives like the Corporate Engineering Challenge, SWE seeks to spark curiosity and passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) among young minds, ultimately helping to bridge the gender gap in technical professions.
The event features two key components:
- Hands-On Exploration: Attendees can explore 18 interactive stations sponsored by local organizations, featuring industry demonstrations and hands-on STEM activities. Activity tables are open from 9am-3pm to Air Zoo guests with paid admission; free for Air Zoo members.
- The Engineering Challenge: In the afternoon, teams of 8 girls will tackle an exciting engineering challenge. Sponsored and mentored by local professionals, they will develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. Air Zoo guests can cheer them on as they compete in the final challenge at 3pm.
“The Engineering Challenge is a powerful way to introduce young girls to the vast opportunities within STEM careers,” said Nikki Statler, Air Zoo Director of Marketing & Development. “By engaging with local industry leaders and participating in real-world engineering tasks, these girls gain the confidence and inspiration to pursue their passions in engineering and beyond.”
The Air Zoo and the Society of Women Engineers South Central Michigan (SCMI) Section proudly thank the sponsors of the 12th Annual Corporate Engineering Challenge, whose support helps inspire the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
