I recently attended an industry conference. I sat in the opening general session patiently awaiting the keynote speaker to take the stage. But first, a well-intentioned board member welcomed us and proceeded to kick off the event.
The world - and our relationships - seem so different than they were just a few years ago. Today, people are less connected to each other and the organizations they work with. Because of the disconnection, and perhaps because millions among us suffer from untreated mental health issues, people are quick to take offense, and relationships are fragile.
Associations and meeting venues are doing business in an environment of unprecedented change and challenge, which can create tension in our business relationships and have a negative impact on our attendees' experience.
Tuesday afternoon the Michigan Society of Association Executives gathered in East Lansing for this year's Diamond Awards. They are an opportunity to celebrate and honor exemplary achievements and leadership within the association industry.
